Monday Riddle #2

You have a jug of milk, and you need to measure out just one cup. How do you do this if you only have a three-cup measuring container and a five-cup container?

Solution will be revealed in next Monday's riddle.   The answer to Monday Riddle #1 is: a hole.  Congrats to those who figured it out.

  2. Wow, if you live in the U.S.... Then I'm jealous of you and whatever job you have that allows you to be drunk around this time.

  3. 1. Fill the 3 gallon jug, pour it in the 5 gallon jug.
    2. Fill the 3 gallon jug again, and pour it in the 5 gallon jug, leaving 1 gallon in the 3 gallon jug.
    3. Pour out the 5 gallon jug, and pour the 1 gallon from the small jug into the big jug.
    4. Now fill the 3 gallon jug and pour it into the big jug and you've got 4 gallons!

  4. Mac-and-me... you're on the right track, but I don't think you read the riddle correctly. First of all, these containers measure cups...not gallons... And second, you over did it and went about 3 steps further than you had to... (hint)

  6. Usually the measuring cups have more than just one line on them, one for each cup... so idk lol

  7. oh man you're making me think....
    pour out 3 cups
tip this into the 5 cup jug
    fill the three cup again
tip two cups into the remaining 5 cup jug
leaving 1 cup...just hopefully no 'two girls' accompanying it

  8. LET jug_volume = 9 cups
FILL 5 cup and 3 cup containers from jug.
    jug_volume (9) - 5 - 3 = 1 cup left in jug

I know this isn't the correct answer but whatever ;)
